The preliminary characterization of P-containing diumycin A' and diumycin B', isolated from the diumycin complex of antibiotics produced by Streptomyces umbrinus ATCC 15972 indicated the presence of 2 active components in addition to diumycin A and diumycin B.A 90% pure antibiotic preparation containing the 4 components was obtained.Countercurrent distribution combined with chromatog. over silica gel gave pure samples of diumycins A, A', B, and B'.Diumycin A, like diumycin A', showed a strong absorption at 257 nm, while diuymcin B' and diumycin B showed no absorption at wavelengths >220 nm.Diumycins A and B, but not diumycins A' and B', contain glucose. Each compound contains 2 equivalents of glucosamine and 3 of NH3.
