Hybrid high and low molecular weight chains of hyaluronan for clitoral injection is an effective modality treatment for increasing female sexual satisfaction: an interventional, randomized-controlled parallel study

AbstractIntroductionHormonal, behavioral, psychological, surgical, and pharmacopsychological treatment approaches contribute to female sexual dysfunction (FSD).Aim: The study is conducted to assess the effectiveness of hyaluronan high and low molecular weight hybrid cooperative complexes (hybrid H-HA/L-HA) in treating females with SD and to compare the female sexual function index (FSFI), dermatological life quality index (DLQI), and female genital self-image scale (FGSIS) before and after therapy.MethodsWe divided the 60 female participants into two groups. Hybrid H-HA/L-HA was administered to form pili of 0.25 cc around the clitoris in the direction of clock positions of 12, 3, 6, and 9. In Skene’s gland; 0.25 cc for each and 0.5 cc into the corpus/body of the clitoris. Two treatments were held 30 days apart.The same procedure was repeated on the control group, but with saline as a placebo.OutcomesWomen completed self-report questionnaires assessing sexual functioning using the FSFI, DLQI, and FGSIS before and after therapy.ResultThere was a significant (P = 634.152; P < .05) increase in the study group’s weekly sexual interactions compared with the controls. The study group showed statistically significant amelioration in desire, arousal, lubrication, orgasm, satisfaction domains, overall score, and a decrease in pain following the first and second injection sessions (P = .014, .031, .003, .001, .011, .004, and .011, respectively). A comparison of the results between the two groups revealed significant improvement were found (P = .025).There were significant improvements in the domains of the FGSIS compared with the controls (P = .026). The study group showed a substantial improvement in satisfaction with the way their genital area looked, comfort level when allowing a sexual partner to view their genital area, belief that their genitals smell perfectly fine without being self-conscious about them, and overall score (P = .022, .031, .003, .001, and .004, respectively) (P < .05).The hybrid H-HA/L-HA sessions resulted in significantly greater positive perceptions and feelings, leisure activities, interpersonal interactions, and general assessments (P = .021, .021, and .020, respectively) (P < .05).Clinical ImplicationsFemale individuals with SD experience sexual improvements after hybrid H-HA/L-HA injection.Strengths and LimitationsThis is the first study focusing on female individuals with SD. We recommend conducting the study on a larger population and including their partners.ConclusionHybrid H-HA/L-HA injection for rejuvenating the clitoral injection appears to be a reliable and safe method for enhancing female genital self-image, sexuality, and quality of life.

Different concentrations of hyaluronic acid eye drops for dry eye syndrome: a systematic review and Meta-analysis

AIM: To compare high or low concentration of hyaluronic acid eye drops (HY) for dry eye syndromes (DES). METHODS: Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) comparing various concentrations of HY were searched in PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, Cochrane, SinoMed, CNKI, Wanfang Database, CQVIP, and Chinese journals databases between inception and July 2023. Pooled standardized mean differences (SMD) or weighted mean difference (WMD) with 95% confidence intervals (CI) from RCTs evaluating Schirmer’s I test (SIT), corneal fluorescein staining score (CFS), tear breakup time (TBUT), DES score (DESS), and Ocular Surface Disease Index (OSDI) were calculated. Sensitivity analysis, Egger’s test and Meta-regression analysis were performed for all indicators. RESULTS: We conducted a Meta-analysis of 10 RCTs that met the inclusion criteria, involving 1796 cases. High-concentrations group significantly improved the outcome of CFS according to random effects modelling (SMD, -3.37; 95%CI, -5.25 to -1.48; P=0.0005). The rest of the results were not statistically significant, including indicators such as SIT, TBUT, DESS and OSDI. CONCLUSION: For dry eyes with positive corneal staining, a high concentration of HY is recommended, whereas in other cases, a high concentration of HY does not offer a more pronounced advantage over a low concentration of HY in the treatment of dry eyes.

Quadrivalent neuraminidase RNA particle vaccine protects pigs against homologous and heterologous strains of swine influenza virus infection

Influenza A virus in swine (IAV-S) continues to cause significant negative impact to both sows and growing pigs. The viral hemagglutinin (HA) and neuraminidase (NA) genes continue to evolve with HA diversifying at a faster rate than NA. Depending on country, whole inactivated virus (WIV) commercial and autogenous vaccines, as well as veterinary prescription vaccines targeting HA, are currently available. The use of these vaccines is focused on reducing virus and clinical signs in sows and to provide HA-specific maternally derived antibodies (MDA) to their suckling pigs. The deficiency in this strategy is that HA-MDA does not persist long enough to protect pigs through their growing phase from infection, and HA-MDA can interfere with effective pig immunization. This study evaluated the immunogenicity and efficacy of an adjuvanted, quadrivalent RNA Particle vaccine (Sequivity NA), currently licensed as Sequivity® IAV-S NA. This vaccine was formulated based on four NA antigens representing the major NA clades of IAV subtypes H1N1, H1N2 and H3N2 circulating in swine herds in the United States. In a series of trials, pigs were vaccinated twice, at three days and three weeks of age (WOA), followed by challenge with either homologous or heterologous IAV strains at 8 or 15 WOA. The Sequivity NA vaccine induced robust serum NA inhibition (NI) antibody and protected against IAV-S strains with homologous and heterologous NA to that of the vaccine. The magnitude and duration of nasal shedding was reduced in vaccinated-pigs challenged with either homologous or heterologous virus within the same NA clade. This NA-based RNA Particle vaccine avoids the known impact of HA-MDA on pig vaccination and provides a new tool to successfully reduce IAV-induced disease in the pig population.
