Vacuum protective devices which utilize membranes of microporous PTFE were completely effective in preventing HSV-1 in solution or aerosol and at pressures up to 15 psi from transmission through the filter.A filter using glass microfiber did not prevent virus penetration of the High Efficiency Particle Air filter in test apparatus, allowing up to 45% of input virus solution to pass through the filter device.The pore size rating did not correlate with virus transmission.The PTFE membranes have the highest hydrophobicity of any concentration available filter media which accounts for their effectiveness.
