The speaker and his coworkers have developed many fluorinating and trifluoromethylating and poly- and perfluoroalkylating agents so far, which include substituted and unsubstituted N-fluoropyridinium salts and their analogs, S-(trifluoromethyl)dibenzothiophenium salts and their O, Se, and Te-analogs, arylsulfur trifluorides and chlorotetrafluorides, and others. These fluoro reagents have been demonstrated to be useful as fluorinating and trifluoromethylating agents for wide application. As a considerable number of the reagents have been commercialized and they are stable and easy-to-handle, many researchers have used them for their fluorination and trifluoromethylation in many areas. In addition, interestingly, the reagents have been applied beyond the fluorination and trifluoromethylation. As a result, many interesting results have been reported. In this ACS Award Symposium in honor of Norio Shibata, the speaker will talk about his fluorinating and trifluoromethylating reagents and the application beyond originally expected fluorination and trifluoromethylation.
