Electronic Medical Record Reminders and Panel Management to Improve Primary Care of Elderly Patients
The investigators conducted a controlled trial to assess the effectiveness of electronic medical record (EMR) reminders, with or without a panel manager, on completion of health care proxy, osteoporosis screening, and influenza and pneumococcal vaccinations for patients age 65 or older. The investigators hypothesized that EMR reminders would improve adherence to practice guidelines and that benefits would be enhanced with the support of a panel manager.
Longitudinal Cohort Study of Dallas County Residents to Identify Novel Determinants of Atherosclerotic Heart Disease: The DHS 2
The Dallas Heart Study (DHS-1) is a large, multi-ethnic, population-based epidemiological study designed to identify determinants of atherosclerotic heart disease (ASHD) in a representative United States (US) urban environment. This study completed enrollment in 2003.
Our objective is to pinpoint factors contributing to progression:
from health to ASHD risk;
from ASHD risk to subclinical ASHD; and
from subclinical to clinical ASHD.
Identification of the critical factors in these transitions will enable targeted implementation of appropriate therapy to interdict before clinical ASHD develops.
Group Randomized Trial of a Barber-Based Intervention to Improve Hypertension Control in Black Men
Black men in the United States have a greater risk of developing high blood pressure than men of any other ethnic or racial group. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of a high blood pressure detection and medical referral program conducted by barbers in predominantly Black barbershops at increasing awareness and lowering blood pressure levels among their Black male customers.
