The Profiling of Essential, Potentially Essential, and Non- essential elements in Onychomycosis affected nail samples is done to understand the relationship between trace elements in the nail with Onychomycosis. The main objective of the study is to investigate the correlation between Onychomycosis and harmful heavy metal deposition in nail clippings based on the occupation, age, and sex of patients. About 14 Diseased and 5 normal human samples were used for anal. A preliminary survey was done to understand if the subjects had any occupational exposure. It was found that there are elevated levels of trace elements in nails with Onychomycosis compared to that of normal samples. In gender-wise comparison, females show an increase in most parts, especially Aluminum and Zinc, compared to other essential trace elements. There is a trace decrease of essential elements like Co, Mg, and some potentially essential elements like Nickel and an increase in non-essential elements like As, Ba, Be, Cd, Li, Pb, Sr, etc. The results show a significant correlation between the trace element levels and Onychomycosis. This investigation suggests that heavy metals have an important role in diseases like Onychomycosis and recommend keeping track of the increase in the concentration of heavy metals in the body. But more research needs to be done on the pathway and mechanism of action of heavy metal on Onychomycosis.
