A rapid, seedless, template-free, and inexpensive synthesis of pure VIV AM-6 [AM-6-(Y)] is reported that uses V2O5 as V source and that, in the case of VIVO32- quantum wire, the nature of the intense electronic absorption in the 3.0-5.5 eV region is V4+to O2- CT or metal-to-ligand CT (MLCT) as opposed to the previous assignments and in contrast to TiO32- quantum wire.AM-6-(Y) was characterized by (TGA), Raman and diffuse reflectance spectra and BET surface areas were also measured. The degree of cation exchange of various cations (K+, Na+, Ba2+, Sr2+, Ca2+, Mg2+, Pb2+, Cd2+, and Zn2+) into AM-6-(Y) was significantly higher than for non-pure AM-6 analogs.
