Objective: To observe the efficacy of the nerve block combined with conventional drug treatment and prevention of acute herpetic neuralgia and postherpetic neuralgia (PHN).Method: 86 patients with acute herpes zoster were randomly divided into two groups: control groups (n = 43) undergoing conventional anti-virus and neurotrophic therapy, and therapy group (n = 43) conventional therapy and nerve block therapy. At one week, 1 mo, 3 mo after treatment, pain visual analog scale (VAS), duration of pain, PHN incidence and quality of life scores were recorded. Results: After treatment, compared with the control group, treatment group VAS scores, pain time, incidence of postherpetic neuralgia reduced, and the difference was statistically significant ( P < 0.05).Conclusion: nerve block combined with conventional drug therapy can rapidly relieve acute herpetic neuralgia, pain and shorten the time and reduce the incidence of PHN.
