Nerve block combined with conventional drug treatment of herpes zoster pain 43 cases

Objective: To observe the efficacy of the nerve block combined with conventional drug treatment and prevention of acute herpetic neuralgia and postherpetic neuralgia (PHN).Method: 86 patients with acute herpes zoster were randomly divided into two groups: control groups (n = 43) undergoing conventional anti-virus and neurotrophic therapy, and therapy group (n = 43) conventional therapy and nerve block therapy.At one week, 1 mo, 3 mo after treatment, pain visual analog scale (VAS), duration of pain, PHN incidence and quality of life scores were recorded.Results: After treatment, compared with the control group, treatment group VAS scores, pain time, incidence of postherpetic neuralgia reduced, and the difference was statistically significant ( P < 0.05).Conclusion: nerve block combined with conventional drug therapy can rapidly relieve acute herpetic neuralgia, pain and shorten the time and reduce the incidence of PHN.

Sulfonation of paeonol and identification of its sulfonate and comparative study on bacteriostatic effects

Paeonol was extracted from peony by steam distillationSodium paeonol sulfonate was synthesized by treating paeonol with oleum (concentrated sulfuric acid) and sodium chloride, and its physicochem. properties were characterized by HPLC, TLC, FTIR and UV.Primary antibacterial effects on plant pathogenic fungi and bacteria showed that paeonol and sodium paeonol sulfonate had remarkably inhibiting effects on Xanthmonas oryzae pv. oryzicda, Pseudomonas solanacearum Smith, Phyllosticta mali Pril. et Delac. and Rhizoctonia solani Kuhn.

Antioxidative function of paeonol and sodium paeonol sulfonate

The difference of the antioxidative function between paeonol and sodium paeonol sulfonate was investigated.The clearing function on superoxide anion (O₂^-.) and hydroxy radical (·OH), and the inhibition on H₂O₂, UV-induced hemolysis of RBC of paeonol and sodium paeonol sulfonate were evaluated in the paper.And the paper also showed that Paeonol and sodium paeonol sulfonate had strong clearing function on O₂^-., ·OH and inhibition on H₂O₂, UV-induced hemolysis of RBC.The later had a better antioxidative function and exceeds ascorbic acid which is commonly used as pos. control drug in some aspect.It was conclusion that paeonol and sodium paeonol sulfonate will be new resource of natural antioxidants.
