(Credit: Business Wire) Colfax subsidiary DJO has expanded its EMPOWR hip portfolio with the introduction of new EMPOWR Dual Mobility hip system. EMPOWR Dual Mobility is said to be provided with the largest assembled head size for a given cup size to deliver enhanced joint stability. The hip system also features an advanced locking mechanism with a uniquely designed dome peg and locking tabs to address the risk of malseating. Its locking feature enables to achieve better cup-liner engagement and enhance corrosion resistance. All polyethylene bearings in the dual mobility system are provided with HXe+, a crosslinked material blended with Vitamin E. It will help minimise oxidation and long-term wear. DJO stated that the system’s features offer an efficient solution when combined with one tray of instrumentation, thereby helping to efficiently meet surgeon requirements in the healthcare setting. DJO Surgical president and general manager Louis Vogt said: “EMPOWR Dual Mobility offers a unique liner-engagement feature that is designed to provide confirmation of liner seating which addresses a clinical challenge reported in the literature. “This innovative feature along with improved instrumentation culminating in one tray and optimised head sizes for enhanced stability are the true stars of this system.” The company is exhibiting the new EMPOWR Dual Mobility hip system at the 2021 Annual Meeting of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS), which is being held between 31 August and 3 September in San Diego, California. DJO is engaged in the development and distribution of medical devices for musculoskeletal health, joint reconstruction, vascular health, and pain management. In April this year, DJO completed the acquisition of orthopaedic medical device company MedShape, which offers advanced surgical solutions for foot and ankle surgeons.
