The synthesis of dihydro-pyrano imidazole derivatives through the novel multi-component reaction (MCRs) of p-benzaldehyde derivatives, malononitrile, and creatinine using SiO2-Pr-SO3H under solvent-free conditions has been developed.Using this approach results in a higher purity and yield while providing greener and more sustainable conditions. All obtained products were characterized and identified with FT-IR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, and Mass Spectroscopy anal.Furthermore, the photoluminescence properties of 2,5-Diamino-1-methyl-7-(4-nitro-phenyl)-1,7-dihydro-pyrano[2,3-d] imidazole-6-carbonitrile (10-4 M) was investigated for the high sensitive and selective detecting of Hg2+ ions, which caused a remarkable quenching in fluorescence intensity using different metal cations without any interference including Na+, Mn2+, Ni2+, Cr3+, Zn2+, Pb2+, Al3+, Ag+, Cu2+, Mg2+, Hg2+, Cd2+, Co2+, K+ and Ca2+ in CH3CN as a suitable solvent in the wavelength of excitation at 300 nm and the wavelength of emission at 460 nm with a detection limit of 11 x 10-6 M.
