A review. We review electronic referencing in quant. NMR. Electronic referencing originated from magnetic resonance imaging and is a popular technique. It can be achieved by injecting the electronic reference signal into the probe coil directly, as was originally done. A third approach is not to use an electronically generated signal at all but to produce the signal purely. It seems these methods have had several advantages over the original methods, these being mainly simplicity of hardware implementations.
