A new phenylpropanoid derivative, 1-(2-hydroxy-4-(hydroxymethyl)phenyl)propane-1,2-dione (1), has been isolated from the roots of Eupatorium amabile, together with seven known compounds, 10-acetoxy-8-hydroxy-9-O-angeloylthymol (2), 9-acetoxy-8,10-epoxythymol 3-O-tiglate (3), 9-angeloyloxythymol (4), 9-O-angeloyl-8,10-dehydrothymol (5), rutin (6), eupatorin (7), and coumarin (8).The structure of new compound 1 was determined through spectroscopic and MS analyses.Among the isolated compounds, compounds 1, 2, 4, and 6 showed potent inhibition with IC50 values of 27.69 ± 2.73, 25.02 ± 3.07, 19.18 ± 1.64, and 10.05 ± 0.78 mM, resp., against LPS-induced NO generation.
