Evaluation of the Diagnostic Value of the TPD System in Determining ADHF Causing Acute Dyspnea
The objective of this study is to evaluate Lung Doppler signals (LDS) among patients presenting to the emergency department with acute dyspnea, in order to determine the diagnostic value of this non-invasive method to discriminate ADHF causing dyspnea from any other cause i.e., non-ADHF causes of dyspnea.
Transthoracic Parametric Doppler Assessment of Lung Doppler Signals in Acute Pulmonary Embolism
The LDS may contain information of significant diagnostic and physiological value regarding the pulmonary parenchyma and vasculature, as well as the cardio- vascular system in general. In pilot clinical studies of patients with acute decompensated heart failure (ADHF) as well as patients with Pulmonary Hypertension, LDS signals patterns unique to these conditions were identified. We believe that these newly discovered ultrasound signals might provide a non-invasive radiation-free means to diagnose and monitor patients with Pulmonary Embolism.
The purpose of this study is to assess the utility of noninvasive assessment of lung Doppler signals performed via transthoracic parametric Doppler. The objective of the study is to evaluate the lung Doppler signals (LDS) in patients diagnosed with acute PE, in order to determine the potential assessment value of this non-invasive method in this potentially life threatening condition.
Evaluation of Lung Doppler Signals (LDS) in Detecting Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension in Patients With Systemic Sclerosis (SSc)
Doppler signals can be recorded from the lung parenchyma by means of a pulsed Doppler ultrasound system incorporating a special signal processing package- the Transthoracic Parametric Doppler (TPD) (Echosense Ltd., Haifa, Israel). Systemic sclerosis patients often develop pulmonary vascular disease leading to pulmonary hypertension. The TPD system may provide important insight into pulmonary blood vessels characteristics by the LDS (Lung Doppler Signals) signals that are related to pulmonary hypertension. The TPD performance in detecting PAH in SSc patients will be assessed in the study.
