The heparin salt ITF 1057 was well absorbed in conscious beagle dogs after intraduodenal administration, i.e., under physiol. conditions for gastrointestinal motility and secretion. The observation that the product is absorbed better when administered as a powder than as a hard gelatin capsule or in pellets suggests that the mechanism of absorption of this salt is influenced by the delivery form used. The phys. state of the salt at the site of absorption may influence the permeation of the intestinal wall.
