Objectives: To investigate the level of serum hepatocyte growth factor (HGF) and transforming growth factor-β1 (TGF-β1), and liver function in patients with cirrhotic portal hypertension after splenectomy plus devascularization. Methods: 86 Patients were divided into observation group (n = 52) and conservative group (n = 34), and 30 healthy donors were selected as control group. The level of serum HGF and TGF-β1 was detected by ELISA, and the liver function including total bilirubin (TBIL), alanine aminotransferase (AST), aspartate aminotransferase (ALT), cholinesterase (CHE) and prealbumin (PA) was tested by automatic biochem. analyzer. The changes of serum cytokine level and liver function were analyzed. Results: Compared with control group, the level of HGF and TGF-β1 in cirrhotic portal hypertension patients was significantly increased (P < 0.05). The level of serum HGF in observation group and conservative group was significantly increased, and the level of TGF-β1 was significantly decreased (P < 0.05). 1-12 Wk after treatment, the level of serum HGF was gradually incrwased, and the level of TGF-β1 was gradually reduced (P < 0.05). Conclusions: The treatment of splenectomy plus devascularization can increase the serum level of HGF, can reduce the level of TGF-β1 in patients with cirrhotic portal hypertension, and can improve liver function.
