Using O-phenylendiamine and furfural as the starting material, Fuberidazole were prepared with SiO2-supported CeCl3·7H2O-NaI as catalyst. The effects of the reaction conditions on the reaction results such as molar ratio, reaction temperature and reaction time were examined The optimum conditions were as follows: n (O-phenylendiamine) : n (furfural) = 1.0 : 2.0, reaction temperature 80 degrees, reaction time 2.5 h. Under these conditions the yield of 2-benzoylpyrrole was over 90%, purity was up to 92%. SiO2-Supported CeCl3·7H2O-NaI could be duplicatedly used, the production rate could still reach 80% after using four times, the process could react without solvents.
