Objective To study the carcinogenesis of Simotang Oral Liquid in SD rats. Methods Totally 600 SD rats were randomly divided into five groups, half male and half female in each group. They were neg. control group, adjuvant control group, low, middle and high dose group, Sterilized water for injection, adjuvant solution, 1, 5, 25 g/kg Simotang oral liquid were ig given resp., Once a day for 104 wk. The clin. observation, body weight, food intake, gross anatomy and histopathol. of animals were examined during the experiment Calculation of mortality and tumor incidence in rats. Results There was no significant difference in survival rate among the exptl. groups. No regular change of toxicol. significance was found in the tumors of each exptl. group. Histopathol. examination showed that there was no significant dose-dependent relationship between tumor occurrence in each dose group, the occurrence of tumor is also a common predictable or sporadic tumor in the 2-yr carcinogenesis test of SD rats, the occurrence of these tumors is not related to the given test article. There was no increase in the incidence of test article related non-tumor lesions in all drug groups. Conclusion Simotang oral liquid was not found carcinogenicity in SD rats.

Determination of costunolide and dehydrocostuslactone in Aucklandiae radix produced in different areas and time by HPLC

Costunolide and dehydrocostuslactone in Aucklandiae Radix produced in different areas and time by HPLC were detected. HPLC method was set up, column was Venusil XBP C18, the mobile phase was methmol-water (65:35), with the flow rate of 1.0 mL·min-1, the detection wavelength was at 225 nm, column temperature was at 30°C. Costunolide was linear within the range of 0.2-3.0 μg, the correlation coefficient r=0.9997; the average recovery was 99.27%. Dehydrocostuslactone was linear within the range of 0.2-3.0 μg, the correlation coefficient r=0.9998; the average recovery was 99.46%. Aucklandiae Radix harvested in Sept. to Dec. complies with pharmacopoeial standards, the quality of medicinal materials produced in Yunnan province in Oct. was the best.

HPLC fingerprint investigation on water extract from Lindera aggregata

High-performance liquid chromatog. (HPLC) fingerprints of water extract from Lindera aggregata were established. The sample solution was prepared by boiling water, and HPLC was employed to sep. ingredients by gradient elution with mixture of acetonitrile and 0.1% formic acid and detected at 280 nm. The fingerprint data were analyzed by similarity evaluation, principal component anal., and cluster anal. Fifteen common peaks were defined in different fingerprints. The relative standard deviation (RSD) values of the relative retention time of 15 common peaks were small than 2%. The fingerprints established could be used for the quality control of L. aggregata with high stability and good reproducibility.
